I want to control my garage's outside light from inside my house with a
remote controlled RF light switch. The light is currently controlled with 2 - 3 way switches, one on both floors of the garage. The light was never wired to the house, and the only way to control it now is to walk out to the garage and turn it on or off. I'd like to be able to do this remotely from the house. Does anyone manufacture some kind of receiver/switch and remote control that you can wire into an existing 3 way circuit? Has anyone here ever done this? I appreciate any help you might bring. Thanks, Snyde |

I have an X10 system at my house which started out simply with the same requirement as yours, but which has now been expanded to control over 20 lights in various remote locations. You could use the following set of X10 components from <http://www.x10.com/catalog/cat_automation.htm> WS4777 or WS12A 3-way Wall Switch module (includes master + slave) TM751 RF Transceiver SS13A or SS15A Slimline Wireless Wall Switch (or any other x10 RF transmitter) Or you could use a plug-in X10 Controller like the MC460 Mini-Controller along with the 3-way wall switch module and forget the RF transmitter and transceiver. (Basic X10 operates by sending control signals over the AC power lines.) |

SeveraL x10 companies make products you're after, such as Marmitek.
Just to expand on the posting above, here's the same mentioned products (but with slightly different product codes, though the exact same product), and how they actually interact: - an LW12, which is an in-wall X10 Receiver to control lights. The module is small enough to fit into the wall-cavity, so you can fit it behind the light switch that controls your garage outside light. - a TM13, which is an X10 interface... it detects an RF X10-signal and converts it into a mains X10-signal. Plug one of these into any powerpoint. - any RF-X10 remote, such as a KR22.. it's a pocket sized X10-remote that operates on RF, so you could take the remote into any room, and it will transmit its signal to the TM13. That's it; with those 3 products you can automate your light by remote-control. The AW12 can accept an X10 command from other products also, such as an X10 bedroom alarm clock (called a MT10), or an X10 motion sensor (called an MS13) - which is wireless and transmits to the TM13, like the remote does. You can probably find these things as kits already, or just source them individually... any X10 store around the world would carry them.. (eg: www.futuretouch.com.au have them as kits also) Last edited by vincentb; 11-04-2008 at 10:48 AM. |
