Hi Folks
A friend has just had a Clipsal Starserver installed and apparently all you need to get the data side up and running is a computer person. Well, that's me and I can't get it to work. I did an ipconfig /all and it came back with 10.0.0.138 as the network address. The server could see me plug in the laptop but I couldn't ping the server. There was no discernible network activity. I checked this across several points in the house. Also, from reading the very short manual, it seems that all you need to do to distribute the broadband is simply plug it into the system as all ports are both up and down. I tried that, nothing again but the server could see that something was connected. All help appreciated. Joe |

Joe,
Have you got an ethernet tester. if so do an end to end test on the terminated cables. If they come up OK then its not the network but your PC configs. Makes sense? |

Yeah. The electrician who fitted it said that he had tested both ends and everything was okay. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong on the PC?

What is the OS of the server.
Are you running a domain? Are you using DHCP? |

This is a simple home network. No server except for the Clipsal router. They call it a starserver for some reason. PC's are running XP or 2000. They are configured for DHCP. It's bizarre.

Go to a workstation and type ipconfig /release
Then type ipconfig /renew If you are getting a valid IP issued from the "server" then that gives more clues. Are you sure there is nothing else set up as a DHCP server, like a router? |
