I bought this av receiver in 2001. It is hooked up to a Yamaha NS-P420
speaker system, and also has a center channel speaker. Since day 1, I
have only run this system in the 6 channel surround sound mode. I've
only run the subwoofer on various occasions over the last 7 years.
Maybe 10 times at the most. Over the past few weeks the receiver was
making crackling and popping sounds and losing sound. My husband took
the cover off and blew out the dirt with a compressor. That worked for
like a day. Now, I will be watching tv and all of a sudden the sound
will go out. I have figured out that if I change the presets on the
amp to say Rock concert, or church, or any of the other 8 or so
presets, the sound will work only on the left and right front
channels. When I put the preset to either entertainment game or
entertainment 6 channel, there is no sound, but there is sound on
entertainment disco in the front right and left speakers like all the
other presets. If I leave the receiver in the 6 channel surround while
the sound is out, I will get an extremely loud swooshing sound (which
will probably at some point fry my right and left front speakers and
give me a heart attack) and then the sound will come back on all 6
channels. This happens no matter which piece of equipment i'm using.
The receiver is hooked up to the tv, a dvr, dvd player, and 2 vcr's.
Always has been. If you have any thoughts, I would appreciate it.
