The 4805 is the hands down winner - by a wide margin)

-W (PS the X1 and 4800 were the exact same unit - and last years news, the
X2 is for presentations)

Well you don't have to delve too deep. And clams pretty much had it in
a nutshell.

I went with the X1 though because I got it for $500 less then I would
pay for a 4805. If you're going to watch mostly 4:3, you might want to
think about the X1 or 4800 as the are native 4:3 and you will probably
save a chunk of change over the 4805.

And clams missed the X1A, not to be confused with the X1. The X1A is a
DOWNGRADE from the X1 for HT as it does not have the Farouja
deinterlacer, which is particularly improtant if you want to watch SD
TV.

Gots the X1 myself and love it. However the people I've talked to swear
by the 4805.

To get the best answer spend some time here;

I purchased the Toshiba MT-800 for a good bit less than the equivalent
Infocus 7205. So far I am very pleased.

Fellers -

For the love of all things holy - most of these are not HD projectors,
and COLOR WHEELS in the MT-800 for $10,000? You could have had the JVC
SX-21 D-ILA projector for $7500 or so.

Go for the JVC DLA-HD2K. Not cheap, but one of the best pictures at any
price.

He didn't ask about HD projectors now, did he? Hmmmmm??

Further if you look at the pixles available in a DVD and the one available
in the 4805, you'll note that it has more than enough resolution to show you
all the pixels George Lucas decided to issue to you. :P

So you're going to advise him to get an SD projector?

His *question* was one of differentiation between the models of the InFocus
X1 "family" of projectors, nothing more - nothing less.

Of *those*, the 4805 is a full lap ahead of the others for home theatre use,
and is well worth the extra few hundred beans. The next choice down in
*that* family is the X1 or it's identical twin, the 4800. IMHO the X2 and
X1A are not worth consideration.

The 4805 (which can be found for about 1k new on Ebay) is not an HD
projector, but that's not what he asked. The 4805 however might be the first
unit to make good quality front projection available to "the masses". I use
mine with an HTPC and for playing DVD's it rocks.

The 4805 has a "sweet spot" of about a 92" diagonal screen size. I have
mine out at 99" (because the room and the screen allow it) and it still
looks fine. My room is pretty well light controlled, and we watch movies
mostly at night.

Not everyone can afford an HD projector, and a new 4805 (or even a used
X1/4800 for the truely poor) can open the door to wonderful home viewing
experiences. I personally plan to keep my 4805 and watch to see where that
line evolves to. I suspect that with the big hit InFocus has enjoyed with
that family, you'll perhaps see it growing closer to HD with each new model
relesed. But for playing a DVD, it already exceeds the minimum requirements.

Further... IMHO it's kinda silly to waste expensice bulb life watching plain
vanilla broadcast TV on a projector, HDTV or otherwise. (Though I'll make an
exception for the Superbowl and World Series games. :)

I've never heard of it. Neither has Google.
