When I watch a movie on my HT the bass is amazing (Infinity PS10). I assume
that this is because of the sound track on the DVD. However, I have a good
Linkin Park CD that I listen to in my vehicle that has great bass but when
played on the HT the bass is almost nill. Now, I'm still messing around
with the receiver (Kenwood VR-806) to come up with a good configuration but
any input would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Jason

Maybe your Kenwood receiver is not set correctly to send the CD's audio
to your Infinity subwoofer when you're listening to CDs?
Have you tried working through what's suggested in your Kenwood manual?
I tried looking for your manual at the Kenwood web site, but the
closest model number I could find was the VR-707:
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/support/main.jsp
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/support/manual.jsp?divisionId=2&productId=2530
That might be worth a look. Anyway, given that your sub and receiver
work fine with DVDs, I suspect that there's some setting you need to
make on the receiver for playing CDs.
What mode are you using on the receiver to listen to your CDs?
Have you tried settings such as Dolby Pro Logic when listening to CDs?
Are you using the DVD player to play your CDs?
Another thought is that your DVDs may have more exaggerated bass output
and a wider dynamic range than your CDs, so the bass from your DVDs may
be much louder. Typical rock records are very compressed, meaning that
there's not much difference between the loud and quiet parts of the
music.
But I suspect that there's some setting that's not correct on your
receiver. I suggest you look through your manuals and/or ask a
knowledgable friend to help you look everything over and/or bring in an
audio tech to check all your settings. Your problem could be very
simple to fix.

What kind of speaker setup have you got? Satellites + subwoofer, stereo
speakers etc...?

A friend and I have been arguing about this forever.
I think you should set your bass and forget it, he insists on a sub with a
remote, or a receiver with remote bass control to adjust as needed.
Car stereos tend to overemphasize bass, the bass on your CD might not be as
loud as you think.
OR the bass on your receiver , loud as it is, might not be loud enough.
Also some receivers cut out the sub when you select "CD direct", because its
assumed your an audiophile who likes "pure" music that doesnt use a sub.
Maybe your receiver is set to this
