For easy to Hal is a good choice but they are slow to fix problems and lack
flexibility
For greater flexibility and a very large user base go with Homeseer (visit
their message board)
Like everything try several to see what fits you the best
Something else to try is Charmed www.charmedquark.com

The latest HAL software version 3 has a HALi Actixe X interface to
allow for 3rd party development of features/interfaces.
You can contact me directly for more information on setting up HAL, or
check our our message board at www.automatedliving.com to get some of
our customers suggestions.
