View Full Version : y-adapter on digital audio rca input

I have multiple components with rca digital audio output (dvd, cable
box, prismiq media center), and two inputs on my receiver, one toslink
and one rca input. Can I get a y-adapter for the rca input to connect
two components and still have digital input? Anyone's expertise will be
appreciated.

Not likely to work but you could try it. Better to get a simple video
switch (same impedance load and similar bandwidth to digital) from
Radio Shack.

Use a 75 ohm switch box. You may have problems with interference with
the y jack. Gary E

Sure, you can also get a AV switcher from some one like recotron or radio
shack that is intended to send several audio/vid sources to one input.
Connect the coax to the composite plugs of two "inputs" and the composite of
the one "output" to your coax in on your receiver
Any switcher that can handle composite video can also handle coax digital
sound

I use a simple Y splitter to feed two digital outputs to the single RCA
co-ax input on my receiver[1]. It works fine as long as only one of the two
components is on, but goes dead if both are on.

The obvious advantage over a switch, as well as cost, is that I don't have
to switch anything. After all, I'm not going to listen to both audio
outputs at the same time. Since I use a remote[2] with nice macros to
switch between components, it's trivial to turn them on and off as needed
with a touch of a button.
