Hi,
Our footy watching family is trying to decide between LCD/LCD rear
projection and Plasma.
We're down to three options at this point:
1. $8,100.00 - Sony KDL52X2000 52" LCD with full HD capability, (HDMI x 2),
built in HD tuner. Progressive resolution - but not sure of refresh rate -
think it's 8MS. This is way out of our budget but we love the crisp,
bright, clean picture and the size is pretty good.
2. $4,100.00 - Sony KDS60R200 60" LCD (rear projection, that according to JB
in Prahran, has just been marked as a discontinued line). Has all the HD
specs as for the 52X above, including Progressive resolution 1920 x 1080,
but with 2.5ms (hoping this is definitely true as am after good pic for fast
playing footy and games, etc).
3. $4,800 - Pioneer Plasma (PDP507XDA) - both places I talked to (JB Prahran
and Hitek in Nortchote) were keen on this model. Was told burn in is no
longer a real issue these days with new technology - and that chemicals used
in system can actually repair burn in. A 36 period with DVD menu left on
was said to disappear after a few hours of normal viewing when staff came
back to shop and realised it had been left on all weekend. Interested in
thoughts on this!!!
4. Foxtel Digital - have read that Foxtel's digital signal is pretty crappy
(we currently have a 32" Sony widescreen WEGA) and it looks fairly decent on
that size. Our concern is that on large screens (we are thinking 50" screen
or more) the Foxtel broadcasts might look really crappy. Sister and her
hubby have an LG plasma and Foxtel Digital and say they are very happy with
theirs (not sure how discerning they are, though....we are pretty fussy when
spending $$$$$ so want to make the very best decision).
If anyone has the above units - in particular the 60" LCD rear projection
system - would love to hear about picture quality.
One problem with the 60" system is that the lamps will burn out (up to 8,000
hours life according to Victorian Authorized Sony service centre in
Moorabbin). We are trying to factor in the cost of replacing lamps say
every 15-18 months or so (shift workers in house so T.V. on lots of hours a
day). Found online seller of these lamps at $508.05 (RRP $600).
Sorry for the rambling post - but wanted to give full details of what we are
after and possible pros and cons.
Cheers and hope to hear from those in the know.
