refresh rate on my tv. is it compatable with,,,,,,,,question

hope i'm at the right group.

my latop's refresh setting is at "adapter default". there are two
options,,,adapter default and optimal.

i'd like to connect this laptop to a tv and use the tv screen as a
monitor through a third party unit,,, but, of course, the refresh rate
must be 60hz. what specifically are adapter default and optimal, and do
they accomodate different screens, or are they totally not compatable
to a 60hz tv screen?

What kind of Laptop? What Operating System? Are you using VGA or S-Video?
Where are you seeing these settings?

The correct way to adjust the monitor frequency ("Screen Refresh Rate") with
XP is:

Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Monitor>60Hertz>OK

If you don't see 60Hz, Uncheck "Hide Modes that this monitor can't display"

it's a fairly old sony laptop,,,w98,,,with a vga connector fro an
external monitor. the only refresh rates are optimal and default. i
have a feeling this won't do
