Front speaker placement?

I have my center speaker resting on top of my TV, which is actually above
ear level.

Should I put the front speakers at the same height as the center speaker? Or
at ear level?

All speakers should be at ear level. Can you put the center just below the
TV, and the others at that same height?

Kind of a dilemma since the tv should be at eye level, so it's either
under or over the tv. I put mine over the tv, angled down to ear level.

I think I read somewhere that when a sound orginates from below ear
level, our brains can very easily pinpoint its location. But when the
sound comes from just above ear level, our brains often "place" the
sound as coming from a bit below where it actually is. Based on this,
placing the centre speaker above ear level (although not TOO above it)
would make more sense.

I also think that above is better than below because it's easier for
the sound to spread out. If the speaker is below, then it might have
to contend with any objects between the speaker and the listener,
i.e., a coffee table or something. Also, if there is more than one
row of listeners, then the people in the second row might have a tough
time understanding the dialogue.

I too place my centre speaker over the TV, angled downward.
Acoustically speaking, it seems to make the most sense.

Actually, when a room has all of the first reflection points treated, it's
difficult to tell where sound from the speakers originates vertically. But
this requires treating all of the first reflections. Not just the side
walls, but the floor and ceiling too.
