Hi Guys,

Just discovered this forum. I live in Northern NSW and, in anticipation
of a trip to Sydney next month, I thought I would Google for DVD-A
sources in Sydney. Sadly, this thread seems to confirm that Sydney is
as backward as everywhere else when it comes to DVD-As and SACDs!

I aquired DVD-A/SACD equipment over Xmas, and had already started to
collect a few titles (and it's stunning stuff!). At one time, JB Hi-Fi
in Brisbane has an "audiophile" corner and I managed to pick up a some
DVD-As there (some at $15). Sadly, the corner has been dismantled and
what few DVD-As and SACDs they had are now distributed amonst
everything else - thus almost impossible to find!

Since this then I have relied almost entirely on amazon.com and
amazon.co.uk, both of which have a reasonable collection of both DVD-As
and SACDs (although you have to search through a long list that also
includes music DVDs as well). Of course, you need a credit card! I've
essentially given up looking in Oz. Amazon.co.uk (whilst being more
expensive because of the pound sterling exchange rate) is very
efficient post-wise and orders are delived (to a country location here
no less) often in less than 10 days, and seldom longer.

Two other US addresses of interest are elusivedisc.com and
musicdirect.com (where you will generally pay $US 20 for the disc and
up to $US 20 for the air freight. Both these stores have a few 24/192
stereo titles, though (including Alan Parsons Project and, would you
believe, Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

Please buy as many DVD-As and SACDs as possible - they are so good, I
would hate them to become extinct before they have even got started!

I use http://www.elusivedisc.com/ and also buy a lot of LPs
from here too. You really need to buy about 7-10 hi-res
discs at a time to average out the freight costs nicely.

Don't forget to also have a look at the XRCDs as well.

As to these formats dieing, well it has already happened
:-( So I only buy SACDs or DVD-As that have a CD layer (or
CD included as with DVD-A). The reason for death is that
*No One cares!* In this day and age of free downloads (read
file sharing) and MP3 there was far too few uptakes on this
oh and don't forget the paranoia of record companies and
their fetid fear of people copying them. For the record
DVD-A (and DVD-HD for that matter) is cracked and can be
easily copied.

You could try www.cd-wow.com - free shipping, but mainly later releases.
Type SACD into the search field for a starter unless you know what you are
looking for.

You will find a limited number of DVD-A discs at http://www.ezydvd.com.au/

For a comprehensive list of MC-SACDs check out
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/bmoura/ Scroll down the page a
bit.

http://www.cdconnection.com has SACDs and DVD-As. Type SACD or DVD-Audio
into the search field for a list of titles.

Cheers,
Alan
