Hi Bob,
IMHO without a cbus interface you don't really have a product for the masses. Then there is the sales issues, which, well would probably be best left off this thread.

Hi Bob,

Does this mean Smartworld no longer have anything to do with Thinkboxx?

Also the curent version listed by them is v4.1.0, is there a reason why you are reverting back to 4.04?

I'm glad to see that Thinkboxx lives on, hopefully you can do it justice, I got sick of my emails to SmartWorld going unanswered.

One thing I was trying to do was get information on the communications protocol to allow me to interface a third party system. SmartWorld said they were going to release some details of the protocol to allow this, but it never happened.

BTW A C-Bus SIM is probably a must, although the software does support the use of a PCI instead, that from the report that I have heard seems to work ok.

Cheers

The c-bus simm would be nice. but if not then a way to connect the clipsal PCI to the cbus SIMM slot so you dont loose an RS485 port.

Did you also aquire the "Wish list" for features from Smart systems.

How far was version 5.0 from release ?

Maybe clipsal might sell you cbus SIMMS now maybe the legal issues are over.

Just wanting to confirm on what level of interfacing you are saying, because
you list software V 404 as current and moving to 405.

Either of these version to my knowledge will not be compatible with current
C-bus tags. For anyone who has used minder/ homeminder/ thinkboxx in the
last 6> years you know that when it moved to a 32 bit operating system ,
WINNT/2000?XP, that auto tag import feature was lost with WIN95-98.

V405 - V406 versions of software fixed the auto tag import for V2 c-bus
projects....but too late....because of clipsal's migration to "toolkit" with a
different tag file database format.

Are you guys saying that your V405 will also support auto-import from
clipsal "toolkit" projects??

Auto- tag import will determine whether your product is seen as a viable
option for current C-Bus users.

About Sentor.

Sentor and Clipsal were the license holders left standing when the original Smart went bust. Smartworld bought the company from the administrators along with both contracts. Smartworld then unlawfully cancelled the Sentor contract and tried to sue Clipsal for $750m in back royalties. Sentor had a further agreement which was not cancellable which allowed us access to the source code. Since then Sentor Inc. aquired the rights and the stock of Smart America. Sentor Australia is the exclusive distributor in Australia and also owns the Trade Mark ThinkBoxx® and the LOGO. Smartworld appears to have stopped selling equipment for whatever reason so it can now be purchased through our US Website at www.thnkboxx.com. If you are Australian then Stock will be shipped from here.

We need to start from V404 because that's the way it is. We are aware that there are some issues with XP and are looking at addressing them as we go.

We will look at the tagged database issue but the way I understand things about C-Bus is that the Thnkboxx/Sentor/Minder controller can still talk to all of the c-bus devices if we had the Sim Card.

Hi Bob,

Great to see more people wanting ThinkBoxx to succeed.

It feels like there are we now two Thinkboxx companies though. The smartworld web site etc is still operating etc.

Could you clarify who is controlling the R&D for the thinkboxx hardware and who is manufacturing the product?

Is it possible we could have a deviation at this point and smartworld and sentor take what at 4.04 was the same product in different directions?

I have a thinkboxx for a customer with NO cbus SIMM.

So I still go to SMART WORLD to get the software upgrade to use CBUS PCI ??

you are correct, the controller can still talk to c-bus, however a 5500PC was
used by smarts and hooked off the previously locked Rs-485 port... smarts put
a doc on their website about it.

the loss of auto import of "the descriptive tags" from a cbus database was the biggest failure in any version running on windows xp.

the amount of time that is lost when an installer has to manually create these "descriptive tags" really does suck.

If you are going to implement support for them.. forget about the V2 software
tag format.. focus on the current toolkit ( xml files) format.

I have seen various smart people out there make up there own little setups
for extracting the tags out into a CSV file or similar, and there is also a note on it in the C-Bus forums...

Cheers, and best of luck with the new sentor product.

Bob,

Good luck with the venture. I am sure it will be a winner.

Can we update Minder software to your version of Thinkboxx?

I think its up for debate. Only a handful of people really know what is happening. Guess we have to wait and watch.
