I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 128MB in my WinXP PC. I'd like
to connect the PC to my Samsung HL-P5063W to watch MPEG files that I've
recorded with Beyond TV.
The GeForce has DVI and S-Video outputs. The DVI input on my Samsung is
already in use by my Dish Network HDTV receiver, so I'd like to use the
Samsung's S-Video input to connect to the GeForce's S-Video output.
I connected the GeForce to the Samsung's side inputs using an S-Video
cable and the audio cables, and then powered up the PC. As I cycled
through the sources on the remote, S-Video3 was listed, so I selected
that. However, I couldn't get any video to display.
Perhaps I'm naive, but I was hoping to see my normal login screen, then
my 1280x1024 desktop, then launch the Beyond TV player (or even WMP) to
watch recordings.
Someone on the Beyond TV forums instructed me to configure the nVidia
tray application so that WinXP will use the S-Video output. However, I
don't see that option in my nVidia tray application. The options are:
nView Desktop Manager, Screen Resolution, Screen Refresh Rate, Color
Quality, Performance & Quality Settings, Custom Color Settings,
Rotation Settings, Desktop color controls, Digital Display, and About
NVIDIA Settings. Digital Display brings up an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Ultra dialog box with many additional settings, but nothing related to
s-video.
How should I proceed?
BTW, how does this work from a practical standpoint? My PC and
flat-panel monitor is in a different room from my Samsung. I suppose I
would need to make the change to S-Video when connected to the monitor;
but won't that disable the output to the monitor? If so, how do I shut
down the PC so that I can move it to where the Samsung is?
Appreciate any ideas. Thanks!
