I thought I remembered Sanyo as being Japanese, I know Kyocera is. Way back,
in the late '80's, Kyocera was marketing some hifi gear here, a receiver, cd
player, and cassette deck, that were pretty nice. Kyocera is a big
manufacturer of ceramics (industrial), and one of the claims to fame they
had about their CD player was the pickup rod on lubricated, ultra smooth
ceramic bars instead of metal ones. Might not have made any difference, but
it let them hawk and use their primary product.

Thanks, I know Suunto watches and stuff are Finnish. Where's Nokia from? One
of those Nordic countries, but I can't recall which one, is it Sweden as
well?

Yeah, figured that out when I got to the next thread. I hadn't been
here for a week, and the first couple threads I read were refreshingly
Steve-free, and I became prematurely overcome with joy.
I'm guessing that the reason he posts replies to old threads is because
he only gets on the internet between his mother's midget-porn surfing

OK, ya caught me. I just made it up. Steve does it ALL THE TIME, so
cut me a break here!
But seriously, I could have sworn I read it somewhere. But unlike
Steve, I can admit when I'm wrong. The main reason Steve doesn't admit
when he's wrong, is that if he did, he'd have no time left in the day
to do anything else.

In anycase, Korean stuff is pretty good these days. JD Power did a review
on cell phone manufacturer satisfaction (2005). The top 4 manufacturers
were Korean (LG, Samsung, Kyocera, Sanyo) (hmmm is Sanyo korean?). Motorola
was above average... but surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) was that
Sony Ericsson ranked at the very bottom of the major manufacturers (I never

Korean companies are trying to move up the ladder. Apparently Samsung
wanted to (or did) pull their products from Walmart because it made them
look "cheap". Well I guess rebranding into a high-end product is paying
off. Their DLP TVs are very tempting.

Yeah, they really really wanted to distance themselves from that moniker
particularly in the US market. I haven't looked at their stuff extensively
lately, but in terms of appearance and design, their stuff looks decidely
upmarket now. It'll be interesting to see if their electronics are up to it,
they have some quite reasonably priced DLP and LCD rear projection sets now.
They really seem to be marketing their appliances (refridgerators, washers,
etc.) aggressively, and they have a very modern style to them.

That's very sad, especially since they didn't meet contractural obligations.
I've seen SGI do the same thing when they were the only game in town for
graphics workstations. They're a lot more responsive now that high end PCs
are taking a lot of their bottom to mid level market away, especially in the
military simulation area.

He probably wasn't a large enough firm to take effective legal action
against them either I would imagine. Hard for a small business to fight a
company with deep pockets for legal teams.

LOL! LG stands for "Lucky Group" formerly known on these shores as Goldstar.
Not surprising I guess that many don't know they're Korean, LG certainly,
for obvious marketing reasons, hasn't exactly advertised the fact.

It's been interesting watching LG and Samsung attempt to ditch their bargain
basement image and move into more slick, upmarket products.

I was at Best Buy today for some speakers, and when the usual heavy sales
pitch came up for Monster Cables, I told the kid (in my usual blunt way)
that those things were overpriced ripoffs. I always enjoy the look they
give me, like I just blasphemed their favorite saint.

I regret I didn't point out the fact that Best Buy, who's so-called "Audio

casts, do NOT use that same Monster Cable in their store displays.

speakers, cranking up the volume so you can hear just how great they are,
when the whole time they're driven by scrawny 22 gauge wire bought from
deepest darkest Cambodia.

I really can't wait for the next "Audio Specialist" to try fisting me with a
Monster Cable sales pitch. heh

I haven't seen it. To me, it appears Tandy doesn't give a rat's ass about
anybody's opinion.

Some of the stuff they sell is practically unusable.

They often refuse returns of defective items.

The employees at the four Radio Shack's I've been to recently have
absolutely no idea how anything works, what it does, or that they even have
it. Ask them about any particular item, and the first thing they do is
start reading the package.

Goldstar actually made pretty good TV's and short wave radios back when.
When I was stationed in Germany, they were a popular brand. Not high end by
any means, but functional and reliable.

So you are the infamous Steve I've been hearing about. To be honest, I
wasn't sure what all the hoopla was about, as I looked over some of your
posts from the recent past and didn't notice anything overtly foolish.
Until now.

Funny you should "diss" trailer dwellers. Several family members of mine
have moved from houses and condos to trailers out of the big city. They
also ended up with several hundred thousand dollars in the bank, and
everything including their mortgages paid off. Feel free to refer to them
as White Trash. They'll get a smile out of that, and they'll probably ask
you how much you have sitting in the bank, doing nothing but earning
interest.

Anyway, if you believe Monster Cable isn't expensive, then you spend too
much time at the know-nothing big retailers such as Circuit City, Best Buy,
Good Guys, and so forth. You might want to try a small, mom & pop shop, or
a real electronics store, and take a gander at their cables. Not only can
you buy them in bulk, but it's the same stuff used in high end home wiring,
and the same stuff as Monster, although perhaps not as pretty. Then again,
if you truly need pretty wires to impress your friends, then by all means go
for Monster. My wires are behind the walls, under the floor, in the
ceiling, or wrapped up in tubes. In fact, nothing about the appearance of
my gear will impress anybody. I prefer watching the set or looking
elsewhere as opposed to staring at bright purple wire and flashy do-nothing
gizmos.

By the way, the most efficient way to wire a speaker is to connect the wires
directly to the source and speaker posts. No matter how fancy (and
expensive) Monster Cable banana or stick plugs are, they, at best, do
nothing to increase the efficiency of speaker wiring. At worst, they reduce
efficiency, increasing the connections from two to as much as 6 per speaker,
connections which can come loose or break, don't conduct electricity as
well, and open the door to dust and dirt which can further reduce their
ability to conduct. However, according to Monster, they do the exact
opposite, actually increasing the bass in some magical way that no
electrical engineer or scientist can fathom.

So please, buy all the Monster Cable you can afford. Make sure to buy their
optical cables, which cost as much as 10 times regular ones cost, so you'll
get higher highs and lower lows. Buy their RG6 cable as well, even though
it's dual shielded as opposed to quad shielded, isn't sweep tested, and
costs a buck or so per foot, unlike my $0.09 per foot RG6U 3ghz quad.

Not bad for a boom box, eh? heh

As for the "(probably) minimum wage drone" you claim I'm dissing, he chose
that job, chose to either parrot the sales manager in ignorance or with
knowledge of the lies, and continued to work their despite his presumably
solid work ethic. Sure, they have a job to do, just as used car dealers,
telemarketers, spammers, burglars, murderers, and terrorists do. That
doesn't mean I somehow owe them respect and admiration.

a contractor I can assure you my company will never install or recommend
anything with their brand name.

As a matter of fact, Radio Shack sells Monster Cables.... Might I suggest a
letter writing campaign to Tandy to get them to drop the Monster brand?
Tandy is very worried about public opinion.

It was easy enough to figure out. Do the math:

1 Monster Cable fan + 1 Electronics illiterate = Steve the Best Buy
Drone (with sincerest apologies to other Best Buy Drones that MAY
actually know what they're talking about)

We arent "blessed" with a "bust buy" here but at Circuit shitty they use
Monster for all of their connections.
Like most trailer dwelling types who love to diss Monster cable you have the

Actually, he DOES mean well, and sometimes posts good advice. What
puts everyone off here is how he gets so defensive, cocky, and just
plain nasty whenever politely (at first) corrected about erroneous
information he posts. That is why some of us have taken to attacking
him whenever we get the chance. He is totally unwilling to admit a
mistake. It wouldn't be so bad, but he is wrong more often than he is
right. Although he DOES seem to be improving, and for the most part
only posts now when more sure of his facts. But once branded a
dickwad...

Unfortunately, you were mis-informed about the quality of what you were buying.
What kind of signal are you running on your RG6 QS?

Quality dual-shielded cable actually has better shielding than quad shield (95%
coverage as opposed to 76%).

Hopefully you are using your cable for cable or satellite signals and not
baseband video (composite, s-video, component, etc.) since your cable most
likely has a copper plated center conductor.

LG = Lucky Goldstar. It's Korean. Back in the 1980's, I used to have a
Goldstar VCR, BTW.
