View Full Version : Re: SVideo brighter than component
The higher the resolution the lower the brightness will be, so turn up the
brightness on your set acordingly
This is a phenom that has been noticed since the advent of HI-DEF

Sorry but that is not the case. I have 3 DVD players, 2 Toshibas and a
Pioneer, and in all cases the Component connection is as bright as the
Svideo, Composite or RGB connection. A difference in the brightness of the
Component, or any, signal is in no way 'normal' and signals either a
defective output or the use of cheap internal componentry on this particular
DVD player.

Well, using Toshiba you must have experience with cheap internal parts.
I had a tosh DVD player also, and the picture was about as bright on the
S-VHS out as well as the componet.
The resolution was the same also, as I couldnt get it into progressive scan.
Also it had a faint pattern of red, green, and blue bars superimposed over
the screen
As for the pioneer, dont get me started.
NOW, this might not be as much of a phenom as it used to be, but I did
notice it when hooking up my friends samsung direct tv hi-def receiver, and
I noticed it on other setups also. Sometimes its not as noticable but it IS
there.

One Toshiba player I have is the SD900EE (european version of the SD9200)
and it's got superb interlaced as well as excellent progressive playback. It
is also built like a tank and has 120 db of signal to noise ratio. The other
is the Toshiba RDXS32 DVD recorder .
Both players have got superb tracking and error correction and will play
extremely problematic and damaged discs. So much for "cheap internal parts".

See above

My Pioneer is the DVL 919 combined Laserdisc/DVD player superb in every
dept.

Frankly extrapolating generalities from hooking up a Samsung receiver is
plain wrong.
