Is it just me or is their build quality getting worse and worse.

I own the TXSR800 which is a beautifully constructed and finished amplifier
that pumps out plenty of power.

A friend, on my advice, recently purhcased the new model of my unit, the
803. Similar spec, hdmi switching etc.

I went over to help him set it up and it seemed far more cheaply built -
crappy buttons and a plasticky feeling volume knob.

Are they still the brick-shithouses they once were, or are they slipping?

Is it just me or are others of the same view?

The constant pressure to keep prices down is reducing the build quality
of all the products from the big manufacturers. Even the Sony ES
products are pretty crappy now: They are no better in build quality
than the regular Sonys were that were built 5 years ago, IMHO.

I still like the Onkyo's relative to others being built today, but I
also think the new Yamaha RX-V series (particularly the RX-V657 and the
RX-V757) are perhaps even more competitive and a much better value than
the new Onkyo's, but as always, YMMV.
