As ross as put it, some of you guys seem a little "anal retentive" to share your tricks, so I will start and hope that others will follow
I am not sure how most do it, but when I bring the cat5 into the switchboard (from the run through the premise) where the din rail modules are I use a surface mount cat5 socket to terminate it. That then allow the use of the small patch leads to patch in any method you so desire within the switchboard.
The one I use comes with a peice of double sided tape and I stick it to the side out of the way of all the power wiring.
Other isntallers I have spoken to seem to just crimp a RJ45 plug onto the end. To me this is a little restrictive if you need to trouble shoot and/or expand the system.
If anyone want a photo to explai it better let me know (I have a habit of not explaining my self very well).
Mick
PS Come on people - make this site work

PS Come on people - make this site workHey thanks for the post and a good question. You seem to have explained it fairly well if i'm catching the ball that is. I believe we use a similar setup. I'll attach a piccy and let me know.
We have been doing this for many years now. Its one of the items I requested to be installed into the C-Bus specialised switch boards over 12 mths ago, but that is another story.
We have revised the way we install now and try to minimise the cables to the sub-boards. In most instances it can be minimised but on the odd occasion it cannot we use these modules.
They work a treat.
Cheers

Can you add some details about it (part numbers and supplier)
Thanks
Mick

Yes I can except I'll need some time. I bought about 50 of them some years ago. The part number escapes me and so does the supplier for that matter. But I'll dig it up and let you know.
Is it what you were describing?

not quite, but the principle is the same. What i was describing was a skirting board mounted unit.
Please let me know about the above as I am doing an intall very shortly (house has already started).

Anyone ever find a source for this product or what it might be called?

If you are unable to find out how to obtain the above "hub", and are unable to manufacture one yourself, let me know, and I will happily make one for you, with whatever number of ports you require.
Kindest Regards,
Darpa:)
