View Full Version : TV Stand dilemma

I am about to purchase a new RPTV, probably the KDF-55WF655. Recently I
purchased a set of Klipsch speakers that I'm very happy with. However, the
center speaker is a hefty 9 inches in height. It seemed like a good idea at
the time!

My problem is finding a stand with a shelf large enough. I've checked about
web-site that I can imagine without any luck. It's rare to find a shelf
with more than 8 inches of clearance. Do you know of one?

Thanks,
Dave

Perhaps I have an answer to my own question. I just looked (for the fifth
time) at the directions for assembling the stand that Sony recommends
(SUGW12). Perhaps I can get away with not installing the top shelf? Does
anyone know if this will affect the structural stability at all?

Thanks again!
Dave

Is there any way you can get the center speaker higher than practically
sitting on the floor? If your mains are significantly higher than that (and
I bet they are), getting the center speaker higher will help the sound.
Ideally the mains and the center should be on the same horizontal line.

I'd suggest something like this, one of many turned up by a Google search on
<center channel shelf>:

There are lots of different models out there.

Can you mount a shelf on the wall behind the TV? That's where I've placed
my center speaker. You don't necessarily have to place it under the TV -
actually some people find that annoying, because it'll be in your face
while you're watching a movie.

There are stands that have adjustable shelves available also. The
Salamander Designs stands have that feature as well as being of a
quality that makes them "real furniture", not just TV stands.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm still holding out for a solution
that places the center speaker below the TV. One possibility that I'm
looking at is the AVSC-2051 from Bell'O. It has a couple of lower shelves.

Does anyone here own this stand? The dimensioned drawing says that the
height of the top lower shelf is 9.25 inches. Can anyone verify that this
dimension is all usable airspace (in other words, that it doesn't include
the glass shelf)?

The shelf idea worked for me also, just be sure to mount it to wall studs. I
got a nice one at home depot, and while wood, has a steel support structure
that screws into the wall. 30$
