I bought a Aikai CFT2790 from Sams Club in November 2001. It has
beautiful pictures and good features. I like it a lot. But then
unfortunate things starts to happen. At one morning in the beginning of
2002, when I turned on the TV, there is no picture but a very bright
thin line at the middle of the screan. I had to call in service and had
it repaired just 2 months after I bought it. It was still in the
warranty period so I did not pay for it this time. However, the
reliability of the product is in doubt. The nightmare finally came on
January 8, 2005. We turned on the TV, and it has three color circles on
the screen - green, blue and red. I have to call in service again. This
time the one year warranty has expired and is going to cost me $170 by
the estimate of the service company. I would recommend any one who is
thinking about buying this TV seriously consider buying a Sony instead.
Because even though the price tag is higher initially, the quality is
much more stable and would save you money and trouble in the long term.
Akai TV was a value buy when we bought it. It turns out to be not as
good a deal as we thought.

One of lifes hard learned lessons, you dont get something for nothing.
The first problem (the horizontal line) was the high voltage power supply,
not suprising as the Chinese have trouble with power supplies.
And yes this is major.
And the three collors is the three scanning electron guns firing on the
screen instead of painting a picture, and yes this is major too. Throw this
hunk of junk out or fill it with cement and use it as a boat anchor

My advice as to what to do with it still applies
