I have a Sony STR-DE935 receiver which I purchased a few years back from
Circuit City. It has worked very well with a Bose Acoustimass 6 Series I
speaker system (which I recently auctioned on eBay). It is in pristine
condition and I still have the original owner's manual/operating
instructions for it. I am considering selling/auctioning it, or keeping it
for a future "theater room" that I'm thinking about setting up in the
present living room. If I do keep it I'll have to get another remote, since
the original remote was torn apart by my son. I'll also have to get some
more speakers.

Here's a link to the support page for this receiver:

If I do sell or auction it, I'd have no idea how much to expect to get for
it. I don't have a whole lot of money to deal with... which is why I'm
considering selling or auctioning it. Any suggestions? Comments?

Thank you,
Tony

Don't mean to hurt your feelings, but your taste in electronics
absolutely sucks. First the Bose, then a Sony STR-DE935. Don't feel
bad, I have the same piece of crap myself (but no Bose). You'd most
likely get no more than 50-75 bucks for the thing, partly because your
son tore apart the remote. If you want a replacement, they sell on
Ebay for $36-$56, plus shipping.
If it was me, I'd just keep it for use in another system. And someday
soon you'll probably end up having to spring for some sort of music
system for the remote rendering son. You could then donate it to him.
Besides, if you don't have the original packing materials/box, packing
it to ship to an auction winner can be a pain. If you really want to
sell it, I'd do it locally to avoid the packing for shipment hassle.
But that's just me...

Ha ha. I'd have to agree with you on the sucky taste in audio electronics.
Thanks for the advice. Next time, if I ever win the lotto, I'll do some more
research before I buy.

Yeah, I'll be doing more research before I buy next time too. Forgive
my nosiness, but are you going to be living without an HT system if you
sell the Sony? I guess I'm just wondering why you want to get rid of
it.

That is true. However, I have little time for music (Network Administrator),
and our Sony Wega 42" seems to have some great sound coming from it's little
speakers...

You can buy a new one with seven channels for a few hundred and like your
receiver it will have audible distortion.
I'd just keep it and find a use for it, because no one will give you much
for it unless they are mentally challenged and you dont want to take
advantage now do you?
Although someone did pay a few grand for a half eaten sandwich.....
