G'day guys, I have a ThinkBoxx and I am in the market to buy a reverse cycle aircon that I can control from ThinkBoxx. I have heard that Daikin have an add on board for some of their aircons (waiting on a response from Daikin at the moment) that allows some level of control. I would like to be able to turn the aircon on and off and hopefull control temperature.

Has anyone had any experience in this area?

Hi turbodude,
Controlling Daikins is very simple and there are any number of ways to do it. On of the best and simplest was is as follows.

Relay Option

66

·On/off control of air conditioner via C-Bus
·Status of air conditioner available to C-Bus
·Control and monitoring can be achieved via any C-Bus Key Input Module, Touch Screen, Telephone Interface or Software Application.

Infrared (IR) option

67

Functions available include:

·On, off, set point adjustment, fan speed setting and operating mode (i.e. heating or cooling) control available via C-Bus. All functions available to the Daikin hand held IR transmitter can be mimicked by the 5025NIRT.
·Control and monitoring can be achieved via any C-Bus Key Input Module, Touch Screen, Telephone Interface or Software Application.
·Allow for one 5035NIRT per air conditioning indoor unit.
·The air conditioning status is not available with this option.
·Note: IR strings for AC are often very long. Custom IR software (CIS) is required for capturing and programming these strings.

Thinkboxx can also be plumbed into a Dakin using the same principles of a digital close for input status and relay outputs for off/on control.

You can control the temp by wiring resistors in the outputs of thinkboxx. each resistance is a different temp

you waste a relay for every temp setpoint you want

May as well through in..
BACnet gateway option

Functions available include:
·All air conditioning functions available via BACnet gateway.
·True two way communications between C-Bus and Daikin systems.
·The C-Bus to BACnet gateway can support only one C-Bus Application and 255 C-Bus Group Addresses. Multiple devices can be added to support larger installations.
·Control and monitoring can be achieved via any C-Bus Key Input Module, Touch Screen, Telephone Interface or Software Application.
·Entire installation can be managed via a BMS.

I have add on "Home Automation" interfaces for my Vulcan heating & Bonaire evap cooling.

The interface sits between the wall controller and the unit and provides on/off and status.

Having said that, I havent actually hooked it up yet, so I can't comment on how well it works, but it's a factory product designed to do the job.

Cheers

Is this a clipsal product? I dont remember ever seeing it, not that I was looking and I have not been able to find it yet on their site.

I am interested in doing something similar for my place - carrier seems to be the system we may use, but it is early days yet.

I finally got my heating and AC hooked up to my thinkboxx, so I thought I would share the documentation on how to do it.

The interface only provides on/off control which is a bit of a bummer, but it does have a contact closure feedback that indicates if the unit is on or off regardless of how it was switched (Thinkboxx or the wall panel) and it allows control of the unit from either Thinkboxx or the wall controller simultaneously. So if Thinkboxx turns it off you can overide it from the wall controller and vice versa.

I have attached the specs for the HA interface.

I can't upload the .doc file because it's bigger than the allowed limit.

Ross any chance of lifting the limit for .doc files to 200 KB.

Cheers

Rohan

Thanks Ross, I've attached the document.
