I also attempted to splice my power supply line with 2 conductor wire,
and also fried the brick. It now produces 0V and makes a faint
clicking sound once per second.

Despite the tip clearly only having two conductors where it connects to
the LCD, I am guessing there is some kind of feedback circuit in the
tip, probably related to eletromagnetic interference supression. Most
LCD supplies have an RF choke near the tip, the Sharp does not.

My replacement supply is on order, but I still need a longer cord.
Dare I use the length of cord from the dead supply as the extension. I
don't want to fry a second supply.

Also, are there any PS experts who can explain what circuit could be in
the tip that reads 0 ohms wtih both polarities, but instantly fries the
PS if the feedback signals are shorted?

I still have not solved this problem either. But, in my case I used 4
conductor wire on the splice, so I don't think shorting the tip is the
only problem. The Red and White wires are actually soldered together at
the tip; the Blue and ground also appear to be tied together but I did
not actually see the connection, so there may be something going on
there.

On my second attempt I was able to make the 4 conductor splice work,
but something went wrong when I made the final connection through the
wall. We are only talking about 4 wires here, so I think it is pretty
unlikely that I connected them wrong (Twice!).

I was about to give up on this, but after seeing someone else trying to
do the same thing, I might give it another try.

Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you make any progress or have
other suggestions.
Thanks, George.
