I currently have a 100w powered subwoofer. My current set up has the
surround speaker wires going to the subwoofer then to the speakers. I
just purchased a new
home theater system with a passive subwoofer. This set up has the wires
going directly to the speakers, even the sub which is rated at 135w.
Would it harm any thing if I used my power sub instead? If so should I
then hook the surround speakers like they are now or directly from the
receiver?
Thanks
John

You can connect your powered sub to the passive sub output on your new home
theater receiver, just make sure you use the high-level inputs on the
powered subwoofer and turn the crossover on the sub all the way up (if it
has one). Leave the satellite speakers connected directly to their
respective outputs on the receiver. If your powered sub has a low-level RCA
input connection and your new receiver has a pre-amp RCA output for
subwoofer it's typically better to connect it that way.
