Hello all,

Back some months ago I had posted this same message asking for a
suggested color standard when using Cat5e for phone wiring.
Meaning... which colored pairs of the Cat5e match up with the old
style Black/Red/Green/Yellow phone wiring.

Someone responded back quickly and gave me this link:
http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.asp

Which I printed off, and set the paper aside until I needed it. Well,
many months later and I'm finally getting around to my jack wiring.
As I peel back the Cat5e casing today, I realize that this printout
isn't going to work for me, because the UTP cable in the diagram is
NOT Cat5e.

I know this is kind of being anal, since I can really use ANY of the
paris in the Cat5e cable and dedicate them to whatever color I want.
But being that this is new construction, I wanted to make sure I got
the standard right.

So once again I pose my question of what the correct matching colors
are for Cat5e when used as phone wiring?

If anyone can post a quick response back on this one I would greatly
appreciate it, since I'm back to wiring detail first thing tomorrow :)

Many thanks in advance!

Kevin

Look at this page at the same site:

Are you going to use the cable for voice or data? Cat5/e is the quality
of the cable - not the wiring scheme.

White with blue is green
Blue with white is red

Orange is the next line.

Take a look at the diagram on that page again
http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.asp
it does in fact show both the 4 pair (cat 5 E) colors and the quad
colors (perhaps you missed it). For primary dialtone use the white/blue
pair on a cat 5e cable. The diagram and the accompanying explanation on
that page show additional information.

You are right that is not CAT5E cable. But the colors are correct.

The colors they show are only using 3pairs of the 4pairs in the CAT5 cable.
But they are in correct order.
