I have 5 telephone points in my house and I am wondering what Telephone Systems are available out there to allow me to

1. Call from point to point
2. Share 1 or 2 external lines

There are lots of small office type systems from a variety of manufacturers. one of the more common was Telstra's Commander series, which from memory was a generic name for quite a few different units.

Have a look on Ebay, there are usually some for sale there.

I would think your main problem will be how your existing points are wired. They are probably just looped from one to another. For a Commander type system you need all the points to run back to a central location where the smart box will live.

There may be some smarter stuff available these days, but thats how it has been done in the past.

All points are running to a central location.

Then you're good to go.

Just one more word of warning, most of these units need to be programmed to some degree. Some you can do via one of the handsets others require configuration software, so be careful what you buy.

Oh, and you also need to have a ACA license to install them.

You need to make some decisions.

Analogue or Digital

Will you require to use the Digital Handsets made from the manufacturer or do you just want to plug in a standard analogue POTS handset.

If you go digital then expect to pay min $250 AUS for a handset.

A main equipment would cost average $1000 which would do you up to 2 lines and 12 extensions.

I would recommend Hyrex BX8 or Small Aria.

What country are you in?
