View Full Version : 2 HD channels not coming in...

I have Comcast HD and ESPN HD and TNT HD have been both blurry . Pixation
(is that the word>;O) is very bad on both channels. The cable guy came
today and fixed some of the channels that were doing this and not coming in
at all. What could be the problem? I have my cable running through my
receiver but I hooked up the cable directly to the TV and it did the same
thing. Any help would be appreciated. We are going to call Comcast again
later today.
Thanks....

Probably a bad cable connection... do you have any splitters or amplifiers
along the way?

I have one splitter but it has been there way before the trouble. We
changed out one of our HD boxes for another one and now our Mitsubishi HDTV
is showing all non HD programming in 480i instead of 480p. Wonder what
would cause this?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance...

Hi, I had the same problem with a couple of channels that were
pixelating. I had the cable guy come out and he said the signal wasn't
high enough. My house has some older cable that I cannot get replaced
(finished basement)...but basically, it was the cable that was degrading
the signal. The cable guy installed an amplifier (about $35) that
boosted the signal through the cable and now all my
HD channels work great now. Higher channels may be more susceptible to
noise and low signal quality.

Thanks Michael. I'll ask about the amplifier.

This is a setting in the setup of the box itself. Is it a Motorola box?
It should be the 4:3 overide setting. See page 5.

I had Time-Warner Cable come to the house this morning for a similar
problem --- I couldn't get four of my HD channels. Come to find out the
problem was three-fold:
1. My amplifier was *interfering* with the signal. The cable guy
removed it.
2. I had connected the cable input to one of those power outlet surge
protectors at the wall. This was blocking signals. The cable guy
removed that as well.
3. Bad connectors at the end of the cables. The cable guy replaced two
of these.
Been working OK for the last ten hours now...
