View Full Version : Help with remote control of subwoofer power
Hey everyone - When I turn on my audio receiver, I would like to have
its switched AC power outlet also turn on the power to my subwoofer.
Problem is that they are on opposite sides of my living room and I
dont want to run an extension cord. Are there any wireless RF
controls out there that will allow me to do this? I have found
several wireless power devices that operate from a remote, but I want
to have the relay triggered from my receiver. any help would be
great!! thanks- dan

Most subs have an option for signal-sensing to operate auto on/off.
Does yours?
Kal
P.S.: Same response to your other posts.

See if there's an X10 device for this.

I have an RF controlled outlet for a light in my living room. It wouldn't
be controlled by the amp, but you could set it up as a "remote control".
Should be in any home depot/LoewsRadio shack.....

My question to you would be, why do you want to do this?

You could run an extension cord through the ceiling, wall, or floor,
but you probably don't want to. Would be a lot of work.
What about running that extension cord next to the audio cable that
connects the sub to your receiver?

If anyone has anything like this, my guess would be X10. See: x10.com
Also, if the sub has an autotriggering feature that turns the sub on
when the sub senses an audio signal, you could use that feature, as I
think somebody else already pointed out. Before you buy anything, I
suggest you read your sub's manual and see if it has the autotriggering
feature.

I have my sub connected to an X10 appliance module set to the same
house/unit code as all the lights in my living room. The lights,
however, are connected to lamp modules which dim (appliance modules
only switch on/off). So the sub comes on when I am in the room with
the lights on. It is cool to be able to dim all of the lights at one
time when watching movies. I also have two low wattage floor lamps
pointed toward the wall on each side of my 56" HDTV - these are also
connected to appliance modules so never dim - they provide just enough
bias light to prevent eye strain (pupil pumping) when the other lights
are dimmed and watching a movie.
