To all YOU electronic experts out there this novice needs help. Im
trying to get dolby stero/dolby surround sound on my dishnetwork and on
my emerson dvd/cd player. This isn't my field of expertise so bear with
me. This is what i have and how its hookedup. I have: ( sorry if this
bores you expertise out there. The satellite coming from outside the
house goes to the satellite input on the back of the JVC dishnetwork
receiver. Then it goes TV set output, on back of Dish receiver to the
antenna in, on the back of the Emerson dvd/vhs player. Then, from the
antenna out of the dvd/vhs player it goes to the antenna terminal on
the back of my TV. I hope I didn't confuse you and i hope this makes
sense. ) And I'll be hooking up to all of this an ONKYO audio video
control amplifier that has dolby stero/dolby surround sound. I nhave
plenty of audio/video cables available and even an RF? cable, if needed
for the hookup. Im lookin for the simpleist hookup posible. My best
guess is I need to hook something coming OUT from either the satellite
receiver or dvd/dhs to something IN on the onkyo amp. Do I need to do
this for both of them, satellite & dvd/vcr? Seems like it would be much
simpler if I could just hookup one of them to the back of the Onkyo amp
and get surround/stero sound on both. Hopefully thats possible. In any
event I will do whats needed. I have a panasonic TV that has
audio/video inputs on back of the TV and some even on front(probably
for gaming). And my ONKYO amp has plenty of terminals on the back for
hooups such as turntable, cd, tuner, tapedeck, mono out, and
connections for VIDEO 1 (video disc player or video cassette player)
and VIDEO 2 (video cassete recorder). So, I appreciate your help and
please keep it simple for me, as simple as you can. Remember, I am a
novice at this stuff. And try to be specific about what terminals( out
or in) to hookup going from what to what(satellite/dvdvcr/onkyo), I
appreiate that. And did I mention the EMERSON is a combo dvd/vcr
palyer, not two seperate units. Hope I gave you enough information,
probably too much. Oh well. Thanks in advance and I'll let you know how
it turns out.

The RF out from the dish receiver likely doesn't carry stereo sound,
which you need to get surround. You need to use the L/R analog line
level audio outs (red and white color plugs) from the dish receiver
and hook them to a line level input on the Onkyo, like tuner. If you
want to record in stereo on the Emerson VCR, then you have to hook up
those line level outs to the VCR.

Tell me if the TV has an S-Vid input and if the Onkyo has composite
and S-Vid video switching and if it has digital audio inputs for the
DVD player and I can recommend a hookup that gets you stereo to the
Onkyo as well as to the Emerson.
