I'm sure this has been covered before, but what's a good value Universal
Remote?
I don't want the cheap shit, and I don't need something that'll do my email
and play MP3s. Any recommendations for a low to middle range device?
I'm actually awaiting delivery of my new mobile phone which has Pocket PC
and IR. Can I get some software that will work on this?
I bought a Sony RMAV3100 about 12 months ago. Paid quite a bit more than
what they are now but have never looked back!
It has learned every device I have and is very wife friendly!
You can pick them up reasonable price on Ebay.

Thanks but probably a bit more high end than I was after. I didn't actually
realise how expensive these things got until I had a look around.

Oh sorry I thought you meant you wanted a more high end remote .Yes they can
get expensive , I had cheap ones in the past and they have the same problems
as the original remotes , the common buttons are normally non functional
after a while , you know when you have to press so hard for the signal to
transmit or not at all ... The better remotes normally last much longer with
this problem ...
Cheers ...

Yep, 80 smackers will get you a basic run of the mill POS. Your start to
get acceptable ones in the 300-500 dollar range. Nothing beats a pronto
though!

Hi, there is only one universal remote to worry about, and that is the SONY
COMMANDER series,
whether it be the RM AV-2100 or the RM AV 3000/3100 series, faultless and
the better unit by a Big Aussie Country Mile, I have tried the rest, I use
them to setup wheelchair bound persons to enable control of a wide range of
things, door latches, roller doors, A/CONS, etc etc etc , one button turns
on TV,STB,PAY TV, STEREO, LCD SCREEN, DVD RECORDER etc etc, One button turns
it all off...REMOTE AV SWITCHES, etc etc the list is endless , if it is IR
and has a remote, the SONY will work it.. don't even bother with the rest..
I have setup several RM AV2100 , they don't have as many functions as the
3000/3100 SERIES but work magic,
I bought the last one from here for a friend excellent service..rgds
