What is good home automation software for the mac? I would like to get some
for son-in-law along with a starter kit. I have been using Active Home and it
seems to work well for the few tasks that I have.

Well, if he's running Mac OS X, heyu2 is a good place to begin.

I'm not a mac guy, but everything I've heard and read points to XTension
(www.shed.com) being the premiere home automation software for the Mac.
It looks to have great hardware support and has extensive support for
AppleScript. Another great application is Indigo
(www.perceptiveautomation.com). I believe it also has support for
AppleScript (supposedly not as great as XTensions) but brags a more
intuitive interface.
