I recently downloaded "Charmed Quark Controller” (CQC) to have a look at what I initially thought was a very strangely named piece of software.

And to keep it short, I am blown away (although I still think it's an odd name).

This is a fully featured fully customisable, fully distributed home automation package designed to run on a single or multiple networked PC's

It comes with it's own interface designer that allows you to build a front end that looks any way you want.

At first I was confused at what the package actually was all about (especially with the name) but I actually downloaded and read the Overview and Quick Start guides (and I virtually never do that) and it all made sense.

Then I started to think about using it with my C-Bus installation, but there was no support for it. :(

However when I looked a bit closer I realised the package comes complete with not 1 but 2 (different complexities) inbuilt languages that allow users to write their own drivers for just about anything that can be controlled via serial or TCP sockets. And it has its own IDE development tool as well. :D

Anyway to cut a long story short I contacted the developer (who seems to never sleep) and after a few emails we had a plan in place for me to write the C-Bus driver, with his help...... so stay tuned.

So if anybody is looking for a PC based system (mine has a wall mounted touch screen) take a look at this.

BTW although I sound like an advertisement for the company, I have no connection to them whatsoever.......It's just an outstanding piece of software, especially for the price.

Thanks for the nice words! It's very gratifying to know that people are starting to appreciate what the product can do for them.

I have just had a bit of a redesign of my C-Bus lighting page and thought I would show off a bit :D

Are you now able to ramp up and down.

So if you hold the mouse button down (or your finger) on the ramp buttons it will ramp in the desired direction, or does it just step in predefined increments.

Thanks

Yep, the up and down arrows increment or decrement the group address field.

There are 2 ways of scaling it, either linear so you hold your finger down (or mouse button) and it will continually alter the field by 1, or you set it to have a sloped response whereby the longer you hold your finger down the bigger the increments.

It's not quite as smooth as I would like it but I'm thinking about that and I have started implementing a ramping system inside the driver, rather than outside. I'll see how it goes.

This is in addition to the standard ramp to over time commands that are already implemented, I'm talking about when you just hold your finger on the button.

Thank's Ross,

But apart from me fiddling around a bit because I wasn't sure on the look I wanted, it only took about 20 mins for the lighting bit (the main frame is common in my system). I'll post some more of my interfaces if you like?

Cheers
