Went looking for a reasonably priced widescreen yesterday. Basically, the
tele's on the blink and I'm on a tight budget so this thing looks okay with
a proper flatscreen 66cm WS for $676 (kmart). Anyone had experience with
these? The input descriptions seem a bit bare/vague. The sanyo website
says:

-Scart Terminal Input for Foxtel/Austar Digital
-Rear AV Input/Output
-Front Game Input
-Digital Video Disc (DVD)
-Compatible with S-Video Input

I guess that means S-Video is the best it can do, but I'm guessing it won't
look half bad, especially compared to the shitheaps I normally watch my DVDs
on :) I won't be affording a STB right away either, so I guess i'll be
sitting nice and close to watch a tiny pillarboxed 4:3 for a few weeks :\

Anyone have any better suggestions for the same money? And also a
suggestion for an ok quality STB, looks like I'll be putting the DVD thru
the S-video, can a STB go into a scart terminal? LOL << n00b.

I am not up on this model besides having a look at one in Big W, you should
ring up Sanyo or look at the manual and see if the SCART plug is fully wired
for RGB. If so, then you will get very nice interlaced image via the SCART
plug if you connect a STB with RGB. Most STBs I've seen seem to all have a
SCART plug, whether they output RGB I don't know. In any event if your DVD
player has a SCART plug you will get a much better image via the SCART plug
than compared to S-video. Also if your a videogame player, then games played
via RGB are unmatched for image quality*

*unless you have a NTSC Xbox or GC which support progressive scan component
video.

Thanks Luke. I did actually go and buy this TV today and so far it's great.
I'm using an S-video cable I found in a graphics card box and I'm pretty
happy with the picture.

According to the manual it has input for Composite video, RGB and S-video.
BTW, my dvd player (Zensonic 330) has this 'VGA' output. VGA>>RGB plug is
that a goer?

Depends on what signal will be coming out of the VGA plug. VGA plugs tend to
be used for progressive RGB while RGB via SCART is interlaced RGB and the
two are not compatable. I did not know DVD players can with VGA out, so that
is news to me. :)
