Folks,

I have the Thinkboxx v4.0.6 firmware if anybody is interested in upgrading their Minder.

I obtained it from the Thinkboxx people and it is ok to share.....but.

It will only work for 30 days without registering.

Here is an extract from the email they sent me.

In relation to passing on the help files, another party can trial the version 4.0.5/6 for upto 30 days before it shuts down. Other parties can install your copies to another controller but the activation key will not validate their thinkboxx. If they wish to continue using the newer versions they will have to purchase and obtain activation keys. If they do not wish to continue using the later versions they can re-install 4.0.4 or earlier without any problems. ( bear in mind unless they back up the ini files all history and senarios will be lost)

I was going to try and upload it here but I'm not sure how, it's 3x1mb zip files.

Anyway let me know if you want a copy.

Cheers

Rohan

Rohan;

I would certainly be grateful for the file. I have tried to get it from the Thinkboxx site, but unsuccessfully. Thanks! My email is scott.edwards@floripa.com.au

Automator, it's on the way.

To be honest, I've forgotten the upgrade process, but I don't remember it beeing all that difficult.

I'll see what I can find.

Rohan,

Thanks for that. Can you tell me a bit about your quark? I am in the final stages of planning a new home in Adelaide. I will be using a Minder system and CBus throughout. I did the training with Clipsal some time ago so will need to find an easy path back in as I have been quite ill for some time hence the new stuff sitting in boxes for so long.

I would love to integrate the lot to Media Center if that can be done yet.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Feel **** to email me direct.

The first thing I need to tell you is CQC is on sale right now at half price, but it finishes Sunday midnight. So if you've already had a look at it and think it could be for you, then I would grab it now, before the price increase.

Ok, I don't have much time right now for an indepth reply, but I am running C-Bus, Minder and CQC all chatting away happily.

I have recently added CQC's media stuff to my setup and my main media page looks like this (excuse the quality, it got highly compressed in the upload, and it normally displays without the windows title and menu ect)

http://www.rohannoelene.bigpondhosting.com/media.jpg

The CQC media stuff controlls my pioneer 301 disk CD changer, but you can equally use it to rip the CD's contents and store it in it's repository (assuming you live in a country where ripping CD's is legal ;) )

You can do the same for DVD's as well of course, except even in the US it's illegal to rip a DVD, so you can interface into a third party program's repository or a DVD changer.

And you've only got a few more hours if you want to get it before the price increase.

Cheers

Great looking interface.

Pity I didn't have to to really consider what it has to offer because I am putting both CBUS and Minder into a home I am finally building.

What is it worth?

Phil

ps. and what does it cost?

It complements C-Bus & minder, rather than competing with it.

Whilst there is some overlap, CQC brings it's user interface capabilities to the table, as well as integration of many other systems such as Home Theatre control and media management. You can see the current list of supported devices here www.charmedquark.com Under the Learn tab -> Supported Devices. And if you have a particular device that is not supported, you can write a driver for it yourself, as there are 2 inbuilt driver languages included.(one for simple devices and one for complex devices) I have written several drivers including, C-Bus, CallerID, SMS and Rain8 irrigation controller.

As far as price goes, it depends on what modules you want, and whether you buy it and install it as a DIY person or you pay to have a turnkey system built. You can see the prices in the charmed Quark site under the try/buy tab -> buy it.

I do also believe it is worth far more than the current asking price. This product is only about 3 years old and growing at a phenomenal rate, this year growth (in users) was up over last year by 500%. The product is designed to compete head on with the likes of Crestron & AMX but at a much more affordable middle price range.

So anyway enough of the sales pitch, but just to let you know I was a paid up user of the product before I became involved in reselling it, and I did so because I could see the product becomming very successfull, and I thought it would make me rich and famous as well :)

Have a look at their website and then visit their forum at http://www.charmedquark.com/vb_forum/index.php

And keep a lookout for a post here from Dean Roddey the owner of CQC about the new V2 release that happened on Sunday.

Cheers
