View Full Version : Can the 5753 Series Sensors switch on lights partly dimmed?

I want to set 2 of these sensors to only switch on the relevant C-Bus dimmer circuits at only a partial (say 25%) brightness at night - is this possible, or do need to use the minder unit for this level of functionality?

Well lets say with minder it way easier.
switch = hall
dimmer1 group1 =hall
dimmer logic for group1 =minder hall
pir= hall pir flag
set pir to trigger for say 10 secs.
if 'hall pir flag' is 'on', then dim 'minder hall' to 25%....etc
so the switch works independantly of the pir
you can also set the pir - & + setting to full - or full daylight and just thro a line of code in like ...
if 'current time' is 'night', then enable the pir etc etc.
get the idea?
hope it was clear enough.
Cheers

if you only ever want it to go to that dimmed level...
could you not just replace the standard "onkey" command in the default PIR template with a "recall1" and then set up the appropriate value in the "store1" location.
That way instead of going to 100%, it would go to the stored level ( ie 50%.)

both versions of pir can be adjusted to some extent, the "debounce" function can be increased to provide some "hysteresis / immunity / deadband", whatever you want to call it. That'll work fine. The advantage of the now defunct Minder is .. if 'time of day' is xx:xx, then dim 'whatever' etc etc.
Greater flexibility and almost totally customisable, thats all.

most definitely correct.
minder really did have some good features to it. It will be interesting to see
what happens to it now. From what i have seen the version 405 still suffers some limitations inflicted mainly by the software designers and how they implement basics of the software, help documentation, etc...
any more detail than that and they can write a cheque out to me for doing their job, LOL.
also, even brain challenged people could be taught how to program it in a very short time...
the new clipsal logic engine will not be so forgiving, and yet it will be alot more versatile. It will also support alot of the stuff you used to do with minder but had to have a better knowledge of how minder worked to implement it. ie turning things on/off at a specified time after sunset, classes.....
like most things you give up some old things, you get some new things...
i think newer users to clipsal products will appreciate the new logic engine.

I here 4.06 is now quite ok. I guess its up to Smart to see what they can get out of the product.
The logic engine from what I've heard looks good. All we need now is a box for it with some inputs and outputs.

Pigs arse. Some non challenged people I know have trouble designing a workable cbus design.
i think newer users to clipsal products will appreciate the new logic engine.
We won't have to wait long to find out.

Tried Coppo's recall1 function -works really well (set to 25%) - thanks

I agree with you on the documentation etc. Not good for non programming minded electricians. Not easy to program till you get your head around it. (But once you do you can do some very cleaver things easily) Thinkboxx can do so much more that minder could do. The "BIG" thing Thinkboxx has going for it is COST.
Cbus Relays for outputs (The cost of a 9 station hunter irrigation controller compared to 10(9+master) CBus relay channels + logic engine ! Who would do irrigation via CBUS {the Rich !} )
Cbus General input modules
Cbus Phone Interface
Cbus IR Interface
Cbus interface to security (Via PC interface)
Cbus Logic Engine
Etc etc. The cost goes through the roof.
Thinkboxx has cheap inputs and outputs. Has IR covered. Has a great interface to keyless entry. If your heater/aircon talks RCS or StatNet easy to interface to. Can Talk to centeral monitoring. send voice messages. send SMS messages. 2way voice. Reporting. History. Handy X10 interface for the christmas lights and lamps. Keypads.
Do do what Thinkboxx can do in cbus would cost 10 times as much.
I really hope Thinkboxx does not die. I have no idea about the politics between Clipsal and Smart, but from a technical and Engineering viewpoint I hope the product continues and that Clipsal keep bringing new products out to enhance what they lost when they discontinued minder. Healthy Competition and development for the benefit of the industry.
my 20c !!

P.S. I think 4.06 is great. I have a Fully optioned Minder (now converted to thinkboxx). Phone Interface, 3 IO boards(Case needed modification), 5 LCD keypads, X10, Cbus(via Simm), IR interface, 7 temp sensors, 2 Way voice. (Hoping now to add keyless entry) currently at 1100 Scenario Lines.
Controls Irrigation (via Mains & Water Tank pump.) monitors tank level. Controls grey water system. Interfaces into Alarm panel. Controls Aircon and heating. Monitors FLows in plumbing to turn on Lights and fans in showers. vehicle sensor in driveway (for welcome home), Lighting "specials" (turns on lights at night at 15 % when son goes sleep walking...)
Waiting for version 5 (Lots of goodies (I hope) )

Charlie, you are correct in what you have said, i suggest that the future of the product though, no matter what features it has, is now dependant upon the level of support its current owners provide to their customers in the future.
This forum can only do so much for the installers.
