I've just aquired a Yamaha RX-V750 AV Reciever and have been
programming the remote to handle all of my various bits and pieces
with a great deal of success - with one exception - Foxtel.

I've got most of the buttons working ok - certainly the "PowerOn/Off"
"AV", "Foxtel", "TVGuide", "Back" , "Up", "Down", "Left", "Right", all
the numbers and colours... so I've damn nearly got everything I need
for normal operation but 1 button seems to misbehave!

"Select" (The big round one in the middle) - When I've programmed this
in using the learning function it seems to work.. but intermittently.
After much frustrating experimentation I have discovered it can do 3
things:

1) Same as "Up" - So when I'm navigating the TV guide, instead of
drilling into the "News and Documentaries" channels it higlights the
"Sport" heading.. DOH!
2) Same as "Up" followed by "Select", as above but instewad of just
positioning cursor over the "Sport" heading it drills into "Sport"
(when I wanted to drill into "News and Documnetaries".
3) "Select".. - Just what I want....

In the end using the TV guide to navigate to various channels is just
too hard (it takes 4 or five attempts!) - I might actually have to
learn the channel numers!!! <Eeek>

Are the signals for these functions similar? Have I stuffed up the
learning process (I've done it 3 times with identicle results)? Are
foxtel remotes so unbelievably non-standard that my Yamaha cant learn
it properly?

Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else managed to use a
learning remote sucessfully with Fox?

It's my understanding that the only learning remote that can handle the
Foxtel is one of the Logitech Harmony 680 Universal Remote.

I haven't actually tried it myself, but if you believe Pete Blasina on
Sunrise . . . Personally I take his segments with a grain of salt as I
am well aware of how he gets 'fed' his information by electronics
companies.

I have similar problems with my Denon AV's learning remote. It works ~90% of
the time. I have found that quick button presses seem to work better, If I
hold them down to long the box STB somtimes does the wrong function. This
happened on my old digital box and now also on my new IQ box.

Bah, works fine with my Pronto and I'm sure any other decent learning
remote.

some learning remotes allow you to slow the repeat rate, so that 'a quick
press' isn't so necessary...

Did a "clear" and re "learn" with my Yamaha remote and this time held
the 2 slightly further apart (as someone suggested in an earlier
post).

All seems to be ok now! :-)

Thanks everyone!
