on logitech site they say that you don't need macro... But is that still
possible to do? Your comment please.

VERY good. We have sold and programmed a bunch.

The device automatically creates macros based on your entries. You can modify
any parameter and if that still doesn't work, their customer support is
top-notch.

I have one that I do not use any more as Direct TV has gotten better boxes
and I can control all my equipment from their control. If you have cable
check with your cable provider for an update box. I did that when I moved
the last time and that is when I stopped using the Harmony.

I made the mistake of buying mine from EBAY. I was given a lot of crap from
Harmony but in the end they decided to honor the unit. Programming is
different from anything you have done before. Once you get used to it is
done once and not again until you buy an new device.

A lot of macros are already in their data base. It was not hard for me to
create a "scene of" hit CD button, amp turns on changes channels to CD, CD
player turns on and goes immediately into random. Buy the time the CD
changer had found a track to play the amp was on line. (nothing to do with
Harmony).

The only thing I did not like is I could not read the screen of the Harmony
in the dark without my glasses and some of the keys were small to my hands.

I concur.

I have a 688 and a 659 in the house and, if I had another entertainment
center in the house, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Ditto on the customer support, which is open 24/7!

Would recommend it without reservation.

I've had a 768 for quite awhile. Great remote, easy to configure. I would
recommend it. I may upgrade to the 880 when it is released.

So, to ask the already answered:

They really do live up to the 'just one remote for all my devices'
requirement?

Absolutely. I have a Denon receiver, a Samsung DVD/VHS combo, and
Sony DirecTV receiver, a Samsung DLP TV, a Nintendo, and an X-Box.
One remote handles them all. For example, I press the TV button and
the TV comes on to "DVI input", the Sat box comes on, and the receiver
comes on to "TV/DBS". Press DVD and the Satellite box goes off, the
DVD comes on, and the Denon reciever switches to "DVD". There was no
button to command the DVD to "eject" so it took less than a minute to
add it to the LCD screen.

"One Remote to rule them all, One Remote to find them,
One Remote to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

(With apologies to J.R.R.T.)

It depends on how far you want to program them. For everyday use, yes. But
if you are a tweaker of things, you can still set up a lot of things the way
you want, but remembering them is another thing!

For me, it is all I use, but if I want to tweak my receiver or TV, I'll pull
the remote for it (about once or twice a month). I could program the
Harmony to do some of these if I wanted, just too lazy I guess. (768 model).

The 659 arrived April 22 and I can do most things I need today the
24th. Still needs some tweaking but the wife is impressed so far esp
sine the "Watch TV" activity goes straight to her LA Law channel.

Well worth it
