Dear Home Theater Enthusiasts:

I bought my Bose 321 Gemstone in April 2004, almost a year ago with tax
return money. Before I owned a Kenwood UD71 for 10 years which was a
very nice, high-end, mini system. Well, my ex-wife got the kenwood
while I shopped around for a replacement (see also took the Bose radio
we had). Anyhow, I read to dismay all the negative stuff about Bose
before I bought it. It has been almost a year now and I must say my
bose is the badest ass thing in my house -- I'm glad my ex took the
kenwood, go figure - huh?

This has got to be a troll. If the Blose IS "the badest ass thing in my
house," we now know why she's the EX. Thanks for the laugh.

Very true, one of the most level headed and intelligent responses I've ever
seen on a Bose thread.

I'd say it's possible to get better performance than Bose, but very
hard to get better convenience and usability.

Agree. Exactly right.

Agree.

Haven't owned the 321, but I've owned a few Bose products. Generally
they work well and are easy to live with and use. For those reasons,
they tend to grow on me and get used frequently.

I've owned other gear that would impress the audiophile/videophile
crowd and the Bose-bashers more, but that gear wasn't always as easy to
live with as the Bose gear and sometimes wound up being used a lot
less, despite having superior performance. I'd say some of the virtues
of the Bose gear aren't obvious to those who haven't lived with and
used it a lot. Much of the Bose gear is designed to be used in homes
and be convenient to use by all family members, and that works for me,
even if the Bose gear doesn't always produce the ultimate in technical
quality.

The Bose 321 system clearly isn't designed to produce the ultimate in a
home AV experience, but it looks to me like a good system for somebody
who wants a convenient home system that will be unobtrusive and easy to
use. IME, the smaller, more modest Bose gear, like the radios and
smaller speaker systems (like the AM-3 and the PC speakers) are the
Bose items that make the most sense. When I've bought Bose, it's
because I needed decent sound from gear that took up only a very small
amount of space. I wouldn't buy the larger Bose gear; in bigger gear
and speakers, there's a lot of competition.

As for Bose prices...because Bose is the most popular brand, there's
always tons of used Bose gear available, on eBay and elsewhere. The
popularity pushes up the prices of the used gear, but it's still
cheaper than buying new.

while the fact remains that you can get better quality audio components
for less money than anything bose makes, all that really matters is that
you're happy with your gear. sounds like you are, so great! enjoy!
